Hey.  I’m on holiday at the moment.  In between holidays in fact.  I just got back from a short break in Paris and am off to the North East tomorrow.  So here, just for fun, is some digital photography shinanigans from La France.

First up a couple of panaramas:

180 vista over Paris from the Sacre Coeur

View from Sacre Cour

View from Sacre Coeur

and 360 of the Rubens room in the Louvre

Rubens Room, Le Louvre

Rubens Room, Le Louvre

and finally a shot from inside that Louvre that was crying out to be turned into one of those fake models using a technique which gives the photo a false small depth of field.

I am not a model

Today’s new favourite thing..

Article in Wired a while ago showed you how to make a “fake model” from a photograph. Check out the technique here.

The basic premise is that when you view a landscape photo you’re generally looking at something that’s got a large field of vision, wheras macro photos naturally have a small one, so when you see the blurs your eyes tell your brain it’s looking at something small.

Like this:

After

This is quite good fun – but what makes it great is that Microsoft Maps has an aerial photography feature. Which means if you’re lucky enough to find your house on it then you get to turn your house into a weeny model!

so that’s today’s favourite thing – check them out:
